Maybe to a cabin in the woods or a remote beach house on some tropical island somewhere? That is our escape plan, and hopefully, this list of 40 beautiful and secluded locations to recharge a weary soul will help you to plan out your own next move. While many of these places, it’s likely we’ll probably never make it to in person, at least we can dream, right?
Iceland is a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of modern life. Once you get outside of the cities, there is pretty much nothing out there except for geysers, hot springs, lava fields, and this dark blue house. It would make for an amazing escape.
2. Elliðaey Island, Iceland
While in Iceland, feel free to stop off at this incredible island house too. There are certainly no neighbors to worry about out there. You’ll have the whole entire rock all to yourself.
Lord of the Rings fans might want to head to Wales for their escape. You can visit this stunning hobbit house. Not only will you be surrounded by nature, but you will actually be sleeping within the hills.
4. St. Thomas near Škofja Loka, Slovenia
They say solitude is good for the soul. They also say nature is the best medicine. Here we have both! There is really no better place to kick back and relax for a few weeks than the wilderness of Slovenia.
5. Craig Highland Farm Holiday Cottage Near Plockton, Scotland
Scotland is such a beautiful country. We would love to recharge our batteries in this little lakeside cottage for a month or two, perhaps in June or July. It would be a summer very well spent.
This is one of those places that you would just instantly feel at home at. There is no doubt about it. You wouldn’t have to worry about having space to spread your wings either. The population in the town of Tors Cove is currently about 300 people.
Nepal is a land of mountains and wonder. With the majestic Himalayas as the backdrop, this would be the perfect house for adventure lovers. You could literally walk out your front door and instantly find yourself in the middle of an epic hike.
8. Meteora, Thessaly, Greece
Here we have a photo of a beautiful Eastern Orthodox monastery in Greece. Meteora is the name of the incredible rock formation in the background. All in all, there are six monasteries built on top of the unique natural stone pillars.
9. House At The End Of The Fjord, Norway
If you are looking for a winter wonderland, this little house at the end of the fjord might just be it. There would be no better place than here to snuggle up next to the fire with your loved one and a good book.
Not all winter wonderlands are created equal though. This one, for example, is a little more desolate than the last. While the little cabin may or may not be abandoned, if you were to stay here, at least you could rest assured that no one would ever bother you here.
11. Šumiac – Červená Skala, Slovakia
This is the kind of cabin we prefer — tiny and remote. Located deep in the wilderness of Slovakia, the only neighbors you’ll run into out here are the bears and deer. Depending on how good your eyesight is, you might even be able to spot a mountain goat.
12. British Columbia Coast, Canada
“5:22am : Only the sound of mosquitoes buzzing and a crackling fire as the sun begins to light up the horizon,” the photo description reads on
Instagram. For city dwellers, waking up early means traffic noises and pollution, but along the British Columbia coast, it’s a totally different story.
13. Casita De Vorera, Menorca
Menorca is one of Spain’s most beautiful Mediterranean islands. It’s much more relaxed than neighboring Mallorca or Ibiza. You have all of the beauty, but none of the party. At this house, it’s simply relaxation.
14. East Sister Rock Island, Florida Keys, USA
Fancy your own private island paradise to relax at? East Sister Rock Island is the place for you. This option is much more luxurious than some of the other houses we have listed, yet, you’ll still be able to experience just as much solitude.
15. Turkish Aegean Coastal Region
This stone house on the coast of Turkey’s Aegean sea is the perfect place to rest your weary bones and start a little garden. It also looks like it could be a great place to have a wedding reception. The patio and yard are lovely.
16. Somewhere in the woods, Eastern Finland
This red house is so bright and beautiful juxtaposed against the white snow. We can totally imagine living here. The only work to do would be chopping a bit of firewood every few days to warm the place up.
This little cabin is built in the traditional “gamme” style, meaning it is designed for hunting and fishing retreats. Tiny home enthusiasts would go crazy for a place like this. We have to say, the landscape surrounding the cabin is absolutely stunning too.
18. Ile De Saint Cado, France
We can’t decide if this little house is lonely or cozy. However, if one thing is for sure it’s that the environment surrounding it is very peaceful. We would love to sit out under the night sky and watch the stars here.
19. Korowai Tribe House, Papua New Guinea
If you look at this picture closely, you’ll notice that the thatched roof hut is actually a treehouse! Living here for a while would fulfill all of our childhood fantasies. It checks every box.
20. De Sart, North Dakota
Whatever you are running from won’t follow you here to this abandoned South Dakota farmhouse. If you are okay with living a simpler existence, this might be the location for you. It would be such a peaceful place to escape to.
21. Hrafntinnusker, between Landmannalaugar and Alftvatn Lake, Iceland
Not much grows here up in the alpine region of Iceland. However, that also means lots of peace and quiet. There will be zero distractions at this mountain house. You’ll be able to focus all your attention on yourself.
22. Mount Brown, New Zealand
This little hut is surrounded by some epic views. Spending some time in an area like this would be perfect for healing a tired soul. Nature and its vastness would fill you with energy.
23. The Gingerbread House In Hungary
This cabin in the woods is like something out of a fairytale. It practically blends right into the dense forest around it. You could spend a lifetime hiding out here in the middle of nature and relaxing.
24. Chess Pavilion, Mount Hua, China
Can you imagine drinking a tea and playing a game of chess up here? It would pretty much be the most epic game of chess ever, as long as you aren’t afraid of heights. You’ll have to put on a harness and ascend a giant cliff to get up there though.
25. Cordwood Island, Ontario, Canada
Storms can be extremely relaxing, and judging by the choppy waves surrounding this island house, it’s likely that one will be rolling in shortly. You are completely on your own out here. Just you and the forces of nature.
26. Tiny House In The Woods, Lithuania
This rustic abode is as beautiful as it is remote. Located deep in the swamp, there is certainly no Internet way out here. You can simply disconnect and enjoy the tranquility of it all.
27. Ancient Forest Cottage in Stradbally, Ireland
Just how ancient this cottage is, we aren’t entirely sure. However, it’s certainly been here a long time judging by the moss and vines that are growing all over it. There is only one tiny dirt road leading in and out of the property.

“This tiny island in Finland looks like it’s floating in the sky,” the description of this photo reads. We definitely agree. It is like something out of the movie

We’re starting to notice a trend here. It turns out, Iceland is pretty much the best place in the world to go if you want to experience total solitude. They also love the color red there.
30. Solvay Hut, the Matterhorn, Switzerland
Living in this hut would add new meaning to the phrase “living on the edge”. The altitude of this tiny escape has got to be headache-inducing. The views are fantastic though.
31. Faroe Islands, Denmark
We love the bright yellow wildflowers in the field surrounding this little island cabin. It’s also pretty cool how the grass is literally growing on the roof. The cabin has become one with nature.
32. Katskhi Pillar, Georgia
Can you believe someone actually lives on top of this giant stone pillar? We’re pretty sure there is no elevator either. You’re just going to have to climb up that sketchy metal ladder that is hanging there on the right side.
33. Peggy’s Cove, Nova Scotia, Canada
This gorgeous house on a hill is exactly what the doctor ordered — stress-free living. Cast a line into the cove, pull up a fish or two, and enjoy it later while sitting around the fireplace.
34. Dolomiti, Croda Da Lago, Italy
Here we have pristine wilderness at its best, and we have to say, the colors of the sunset reflecting off of the lake are pretty spectacular. Living here would be a nature lovers dream come true.
Somewhere in Sweden, there exists a small red house, quietly tucked away along the shores of a beautiful lake. Where you can fish off of your deck, soak up the sun, and go for a nice refreshing swim every afternoon, forever.
The country of Bhutan is known as the Buddhist kingdom of the Himalayas. This little house in the eastern part of the majestic mountain range could be your own little cliffside palace. Just don’t look down.

Iceland is a great place to check out the Aurora Borealis, otherwise known as the Northern Lights. The brilliant green hue shines across the night sky there. There is very little light pollution in Iceland and it’s one of the best places for stargazing.

Life is good when you live in a cottage on the lake. Peace is right outside your front door and you don’t have to worry about anything. You can just sit back, relax, and unwind.
39. Alta Maremma, Toscany
Can you spot the house up there on the ridge in the middle of the forest? It is so secluded, nestled amidst thousands upon thousands of trees. The fall colors when the leaves change there are absolutely stunning.
40. Sirinhaém, Pernambuco, Brasil
Nothing brings relaxation quite like palm trees and a white sand beach. This church is the perfect place to visit if you want to leave everything behind and start a new life. Pray for forgiveness, hang a hammock, and integrate with the locals.
